AdRoll retargeting campaigns showing 'No Conversions' despite sales โ is AdRoll just gaslighting me?
hey folks,
i'm scratching my head over here, and honestly, i'm starting to think AdRoll is just messing with me. we've been running retargeting campaigns for our e-commerce store for a while now, and recently, adroll's dashboard has decided that we're getting '0 conversions'. zero. zilch. nada. this wouldn't be a problem if our Shopify store wasn't ringing up sales that are clearly coming from somewhere, and our google analytics is showing conversions too. it's like adroll is living in a parallel universe where our customers just browse for fun and never actually buy anything.
our setup is pretty standard: we're an e-commerce store selling digital products, and these adroll retargeting campaigns are targeting visitors who've hit our product pages but didn't convert. the goal is simple: bring them back to complete a purchase. we're using a pretty broad audience for retargeting, and the pixel is installed across our entire site. it should be straightforward.
the core problem is this bizarre discrepancy: for the past three weeks, adroll's dashboard consistently reports '0 conversions' for all our active retargeting campaigns. meanwhile, our internal sales tracking, shopify's own reports, and google analytics are all showing healthy conversion numbers that should absolutely be attributed to these campaigns, at least in part. it's driving me nuts because i can't optimize or report effectively when one of my key platforms is completely gaslighting me about performance. this whole adroll conversion tracking thing is just... not tracking.
i've tried a bunch of things to debug this:
- i've re-installed the adroll pixel twice, both directly pasting the code into our theme and then later through google tag manager, just to be sure.
- used browser extensions (like the adroll pixel helper) and adroll's own debugger tool. both show the pixel firing correctly on page load and, crucially, the 'purchase' conversion event firing with the right value and order ID when a sale happens.
- double-checked the conversion event setup within adroll itself. the 'purchase' event is mapped correctly, and it looks like it should be tracking.
- looked into conversion windows and attribution models, thinking maybe there was some weird overlap, but adroll's reporting should be self-contained for its own conversions, right?
- contacted adroll support, and honestly, it felt like talking to a brick wall. got a lot of generic "check your pixel" responses, which, duh, i've done a million times. no real insights or solutions.
so, has anyone else experienced this kind of major discrepancy with adroll retargeting campaigns and their conversion reporting? are there any less obvious settings or common configuration mistakes with adroll's conversion tracking that might be causing this 'zero conversion' phantom? i'm really wondering if there are some hidden 'gotchas' with adroll's tracking that i'm just completely missing.
help a brother out please, before i pull out all my hair!
