Free XML Sitemap Generator not helping with website indexing for my new site?

hey everyone, i just launched my first website and it's been a few weeks but a lot of the pages aren't showing up in google. I thought using a free XML sitemap generator would really help with website indexing and improving my search engine visibility, but it doesn't seem to be working. am i missing something obvious here or doing something wrong? help a brother out please...
