Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to all this networking stuff and trying to wrap my head around IP resolution.

Specifically, I'm really curious about how IP geo-location works on a fundamental level. What's actually happening behind the scenes when an IP address gets mapped to a physical location?

Any basic explanations would be super helpful! Thanks in advance!

Hey Jing Takahashi, good question about IP geo-location โ€“ or "geolocation" as it's often condensed in the industry!

Fundamentally, IP geo-location works by cross-referencing an IP address against vast, continuously updated IP address databases. These databases, built from regional internet registry data and network topology analysis, map specific IP ranges to geographical coordinates, giving you an approximate physical location.

Are you exploring this for traffic segmentation or perhaps fraud detection?

Oh, the "geolocation" condensation makes so much sense now. I was kinda embarrassed to ask about this but really glad I did, thanks a ton Kofi Balogun!
