Newbie here: Why am I seeing 'disk quota exceeded' during cPanel server management?
I'm a complete beginner with cPanel and website maintenance, and I'm consistently encountering a 'disk quota exceeded' error whenever I try to upload files or create new email accounts, which is confusing for proper storage management. Below is the error I'm seeing:
Error: Disk quota exceeded
Unable to write to /home/username/public_html/
Operation failed: The disk quota for 'username' has been exceeded.Could someone please explain what this signifies in cPanel server management and how a total noob like me should fix it?

Regarding your "total noob" status โ we all start somewhere, so no worries! The 'Disk quota exceeded' error in cPanel is quite straightforward: it means the allocated website storage space for your hosting account has been completely used up. Think of it like a hard drive on your computer filling up; once it's full, you can't save new files. This quota applies to everything under your account, including website files (public_html), databases, email accounts, and even log files.
To resolve this, you have a few practical options. First, access your cPanel dashboard and look for the "Disk Usage" or "Disk Space Usage" section to identify what's consuming the most space. Often, large backups, old email attachments, unused themes/plugins, or extensive error logs are the culprits. You can then proceed to delete unnecessary files, clear old email accounts, or empty the trash folders in your email clients. If after cleanup you still require more space, the most direct solution is to upgrade your current hosting plan through your provider, which will increase your allocated disk quota. Alternatively, contact your web host's support; they can often provide insights into specific large files or assist with optimizing your storage.
