Hey everyone,

We run 'Website Maintenance & cPanel Management Services' and things are going well, we're definitely growing! However, we're hitting a bit of a wall on how to effectively package and price our server support offerings. It's becoming a real bottleneck.

Currently, we're doing a mix of hourly billing for ad-hoc tasks and some small, fixed-scope projects. While it works for now, it's just not scalable or predictable enough for the kind of recurring revenue we're aiming for. It also means a lot of administrative overhead.

Our specific problem is that we really want to move towards clear, tiered monthly plans for server support, but we're completely unsure how to properly define the scope for each tier. We want to avoid either over-promising what we can deliver or, just as bad, under-pricing our valuable time and expertise.

Here's what we've considered and tried so far:

  • We've looked extensively at competitor models. Some are incredibly vague, which doesn't inspire confidence, while others are so complex they're almost impossible to understand.
  • We've tried basic hourly rates, but as mentioned, it generates too much admin work and clients really dislike the unpredictability of the costs.
  • We've thought about fixed monthly plans, but defining 'unlimited' or 'fair use' for server support feels incredibly tricky. How do you set boundaries without sounding restrictive?

We're really seeking advice on a few key areas:

  • What are the best practices for structuring tiered server support packages? Think Basic, Standard, Premium โ€“ what generally goes into each?
  • What are common inclusions and exclusions for each tier? For example, should uptime monitoring, security updates, incident response, or migration assistance be standard or premium features?
  • Are there effective pricing strategies that allow for both scalability as we grow and solid profitability?
  • How do you effectively manage out-of-scope server support requests without alienating clients who might be on a lower tier?

Ultimately, our goal is to create a transparent, attractive, and profitable pricing model for our server support services that benefits both us and our clients. Any insights or experiences you can share would be incredibly helpful!

Looking forward to any expert replies!
