hi everyone, just launched a tiny web tool called 'What is my City Name' and i'm super new to this whole thing.

  • i'm using a free ip lookup service to power it, but sometimes the city names are a bit... off.
  • i'm wondering what's the best way to ensure more accurate location data without breaking the bank?
  • are there any reliable free or affordable services for ip geolocation that you guys recomend for a noob like me?

thanks in advance!

To ensure better geo-targeting accuracy, and just so you know, it's 'recommend' not 'recomend' for future reference:
  • MaxMind GeoLite2 offers a free database for local lookups, providing significantly better location intelligence than many basic free IP lookup services.
  • For API-based solutions, AbstractAPI or IPinfo have generous free tiers and are reliable for a small tool.

Oh wow, MaxMind GeoLite2 sounds like a good shout, this community is always so helpful tbh.
