RTB House dynamic creative optimization underperforming โ€“ what gives?

Hey everyone,

I'm a few weeks into running our first major retargeting campaigns with RTB House, and I'm scratching my head a bit. We specifically chose them for their dynamic creative optimization (DCO) capabilities, expecting some pretty significant performance lifts from the personalization. However, so far, our CPA is higher than anticipated, and our ROAS is actually lower than what we were seeing with our previous, less sophisticated setup.

It really feels like the creatives aren't adapting or converting as effectively as they should. I've double-checked our product feeds and tracking, and everything seems to be in order. I'm wondering if there's some subtle DCO setting I'm missing, or perhaps a common pitfall with their platform.

Here's a mock console output I've seen when inspecting some ad placements, which might give a clue (this is illustrative, not an actual error, but represents the kind of lack of personalization I'm observing):

RTBH_DCO_RENDER_WARN: Fallback creative served for product_id: 12345. Personalization data missing or invalid. Showing generic offer.
RTBH_AD_LOG: Ad served with default template. User segment: 'unknown'.
RTBH_CREATIVE_DEBUG: DCO variant selection failed. Reverting to base ad unit.

Has anyone faced similar issues with RTB House's DCO performance? What did you do to troubleshoot and optimize it? Any advice on specific settings or strategies would be hugely appreciated!

Hey Henry Davis,

You asked "what gives?" โ€“ and it's a sentiment I completely understand when DCO isn't performing as expected.

It really feels like the creatives aren't adapting or converting as effectively as they should.

I've seen this exact issue with RTB House DCO; those console warnings point to a critical mismatch in your user behavior event data, not just the product feed. Ensure your view_item and add_to_cart events are firing all required parameters consistently for effective ad personalization in their real-time bidding platform.

What specific event tracking library or method are you currently using for sending user behavior data?

Ah got it, I thought my main product feed was the issue, but after reading your reply, I realize it's probably about those specific view_item and add_to_cart event parameters not being fully consistent.
