Why is my IP geolocation tool suddenly failing lookups?
We launched our 'IP Lookup Tool' a few months back, and honestly, it's been a lifesaver for our users. For months, we've been getting super accurate IP geolocation data, and everything was running smoothly. But for the last 24 hours, it's been a complete nightmare. Our tool is returning incredibly inconsistent or generic location data, and sometimes it just outright fails to resolve IP addresses. Users are understandably complaining like crazy, and it's seriously affecting our service quality and reputation.
I've tried everything I can think of:
- Checked API keys for our primary IP geolocation provider โ they all seem perfectly valid and active.
- Even tried switching to a backup provider we have in place โ same exact intermittent issues. It's not just one service.
- Reviewed our server logs for any errors or timeouts related to external API calls. We're seeing a ton of 500s and connection timeouts specifically when querying IP data.
- Confirmed that our server's outbound network access is working perfectly fine for all our other services, so it doesn't seem to be a general network issue on our end.
This is absolutely critical for our users. We're losing trust rapidly, and we desperately need to get this fixed ASAP. I'm completely stuck and urgently seeking advice on what could possibly be causing these sudden, widespread IP geolocation failures. Has anyone else experienced similar issues with IP lookup services recently? Any insights or suggestions would be a lifesaver right now.
