cPanel acting weirdly lately

Hey everyone,

We run a small agency offering Website Maintenance & cPanel Management Services, and lately, cPanel has decided to develop a mind of its own. It's been incredibly frustrating, feeling like we're playing whack-a-mole with an invisible bug.

The Problem: cPanel's Intermittent Antics

  • Login Loops of Doom: Users (including us) sometimes get stuck in an endless login loop, even when credentials are 100% correct. It just refreshes the login page.
  • Random Logouts: You manage to log in, start navigating, and BAM! You're logged out a minute or two later. No warning, no session expiry message, just back to the login screen.
  • Internal Sluggishness: Occasionally, pages within cPanel itself will load at a glacial pace. We're talking 30+ seconds for a simple page like "File Manager." Crucially, this isn't affecting the actual websites hosted on the server, nor is it slow before logging into cPanel โ€“ just once you're inside.

The worst part? It's highly intermittent. We can have an hour of perfect performance, then 15 minutes of pure chaos, then back to normal. This makes troubleshooting a nightmare.

What Weโ€™ve Tried (and Failed At):

We've thrown pretty much everything we can think of at it:

  • Cleared browser caches, cookies, tried incognito/private modes on multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge).
  • Tested from various different IP addresses and geographical locations โ€“ same issues crop up.
  • Obsessively checked server resource usage (CPU, RAM, I/O) via WHM and SSH. Everything looks perfectly normal, well within limits, even when the cPanel issues are occurring.
  • Dug through cPanel's access logs and error logs. Nothing obvious jumps out that correlates with the specific times these problems happen. No specific PHP errors, no database connection issues, nothing.
  • Contacted our upstream provider's support. They've run their diagnostics and also can't find anything conclusive on their end. They usually just suggest clearing caches or restarting services, which provides temporary relief at best, or no relief at all.

Our Frustration & Impact

This is really starting to impact our ability to provide smooth Website Maintenance & cPanel Management Services efficiently. We pride ourselves on quick turnarounds for our clients, but these intermittent cPanel issues are slowing us down significantly and, frankly, making us look a bit incompetent when we can't even reliably access the control panel. It's a real headache for our client satisfaction.

Has anyone in the AdsVolt community encountered similar cpanel issues or have any unique troubleshooting suggestions we might not have thought of? We're open to anything at this point!

Hey Amit Yadav, oh, the joys of cPanel playing hide-and-seek with stability โ€“ it's enough to make you want to use carrier pigeons for file transfers, isn't it? I've definitely wrestled with similar intermittent issues, feeling your frustration.

Given your thorough troubleshooting, I'd strongly suggest diving deep into your mod_security logs and rules, specifically looking for false positives that might be intermittently blocking cPanel's internal API calls or session writes. This can often cause those login loops and random logouts, and it's a detail sometimes overlooked in general server configuration checks, especially when overly aggressive WHM settings for security are in play. Have you tested disabling mod_security temporarily to see if the pattern changes?

Yasmin Ali, dude, you absolutely nailed it with the mod_security suggestion! After disabling a few super aggressive rules and tuning it down, cPanel is behaving perfectly, no more login loops or random logouts, seriously thank you.

But now I'm a bit stuck on what to re-enable safely without breaking things again... like, what are the essential rules for cPanel itself that usually don't cause issues?
