Is ad fatigue reddit a real thing for SaaS ads?
hey everyone,
following up on my previous post about reddit creative performance. still struggling big time with our SaaS ads, and it's getting kinda frustrating.
the problem is pretty consistent: our saas ad creatives on reddit just aren't performing well long-term. i've tried pretty much all the best practices โ short, punchy videos, direct CTAs, even some slightly meme-y stuff that usually works elsewhere. initial performance is usually okay, sometimes even great for the first day or two, but then it just tanks super fast. like, alarmingly fast.
hereโs what iโve tried so far to get around this:
- developed multiple variations for each ad โ static images, short videos, even carousel formats to keep things fresh.
- weโve tested a bunch of different hooks and angles for our saas product, trying to hit various pain points or benefits.
- also targeted a good number of relevant subreddits to diversify the audience and prevent over-saturation in one spot.
but despite all that, the observations are always the same:
- we see a really high initial CTR, but then it drops off a cliff within just a few days.
- frequency metrics are climbing super quickly for users who are seeing our ads, which feels like a bad sign.
- our CPMs are rising like crazy after that initial burst of performance, making things super expensive.
i'm really starting to suspect that ad fatigue reddit is hitting us hard. is this a super common issue for saas ads specifically on reddit? how do you guys identify it and, more importantly, effectively combat it?
i'm looking for some specific help on this:
- what are the absolute key indicators you look for to spot ad fatigue on reddit? beyond just CTR dropping.
- what are your best strategies for refreshing or diversifying creatives when you're facing this? do you just make completely new ones, or can you tweak existing ones?
- how frequently do you recommend rotating creatives for sustained performance on reddit? weekly? bi-weekly? monthly?
- are there any specific metrics or tools you use to monitor and predict ad fatigue before it totally kills your campaign?
anyone faced this before with their saas ads on reddit?

Ad fatigue on Reddit is absolutely a real thing, and yes, it often hits SaaS advertisers particularly hard. You're right to suspect it's 'ad fatigue reddit' โ though usually, we put a comma in there, or maybe a dash, because it's that annoying it deserves a pause! Your observations are classic symptoms, and it's a common challenge in Reddit ad optimization where audiences can be highly engaged but also quick to tire of repetitive messaging.
To directly address your points:
- Key Indicators beyond CTR: Beyond the initial CTR drop, closely monitor your ad's frequency metrics for specific audience segments. A rapid increase in frequency (e.g., users seeing your ad 5+ times in a week) coupled with rising CPMs and a decline in conversion rates (CVR) or an increase in Cost Per Acquisition (CPA) are definitive signals of ad fatigue. Essentially, if your cost metrics are climbing while performance metrics are plummeting, your audience is likely saturated.
- Refreshing/Diversifying Creatives: You absolutely need a mix of completely new creatives and smart tweaks. For "completely new," think entirely different concepts, visual styles, and core value propositions. Don't just swap out a background color; try a new angle on your SaaS product's benefit or a different problem it solves. For "tweaking," you can re-edit videos (different cuts, music, voiceovers), change headlines and body copy significantly, or use A/B tests to identify specific elements that are losing steam. Sometimes, a fresh thumbnail for a video ad can extend its life. Leveraging different ad formats (video, image, carousel, text) with distinct messages is also crucial for a robust SaaS marketing strategy.
- Creative Rotation Frequency: For active, high-spend campaigns on Reddit, weekly or bi-weekly rotation is often necessary to stay ahead of fatigue. Unlike other platforms where creatives might last longer, Reddit's audience can burn through content quickly. Monitor your frequency and CTR daily, and plan to introduce new variations *before* you see the sharp decline.
- Monitoring/Predicting Ad Fatigue: Your primary tools will be Reddit's own Ads Manager metrics (especially frequency, CTR, and CPM) combined with your backend analytics (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or your CRM data for CVR/CPA). There isn't a silver bullet "ad fatigue prediction" tool specifically for Reddit, but maintaining a dashboard or spreadsheet that tracks these metrics daily for each active creative will allow you to spot trends early. Look for consistent upward movement in frequency and CPM for a given creative ID.
Are you currently segmenting your audience and showing different creative sets to each segment, or are you running a more generalized campaign across all relevant subreddits?

Answered 10 hours agoOh nice! We started rotating creatives weekly following your advice, Oliver, and the ad fatigue symptoms have definitely started to cool down for us, so big relief there.
The thing is, now I'm seeing a separate issue with audience segmentation; even with fresh creatives, some segments just aren't engaging past the first few days, and I'm not sure how to effectively map new creatives to new subreddits without burning through audiences too fast.
