Hey everyone, hope you're all having a less frustrating day than I am! We run a small but mighty operation offering 'Website Maintenance & cPanel Management Services', and usually, our servers hum along like well-oiled machines. Lately, however, we've hit a rather peculiar snag that's making our server management a bit of a headache.

  • The core problem is this: disk quotas on our client cPanel accounts are acting like they've had one too many coffees and just refuse to update correctly after file deletions or account changes. This, as you can imagine, leads to a cascade of false "disk full" warnings, panicked clients, and a lot of head-scratching on our end. This issue is specific to our 'Website Maintenance & cPanel Management Services' clients, directly impacting the reliability and perceived efficiency of our offerings.

  • We've tried pretty much everything in our playbook for server management and cPanel troubleshooting:

    • Manually running quotacheck -ugm /home and repquota -a more times than I care to admit, hoping to kick the system into compliance.

    • Restarting every cPanel service imaginable – cPard, httpd, you name it – thinking a fresh start might clear the cobwebs.

    • We even dug deep to check for inode limits, but nope, that's not the culprit.

    • File system integrity was verified with fsck -f.

    • And our cPanel version is absolutely, positively up-to-date.

  • The frustrating part is that none of these attempts have worked. The disk quotas still don't reflect actual usage accurately, causing a steady stream of client complaints and support tickets. This isn't just an annoyance; it’s directly impacting the perceived quality and efficiency of our 'Website Maintenance & cPanel Management Services' offerings, making our daily server management tasks far more complex than they need to be.

  • So, I'm reaching out to the collective wisdom here: what common pitfalls are we missing with cPanel disk quota management, especially for a service provider like us offering 'Website Maintenance & cPanel Management Services'? Are there any obscure cron jobs, configuration files, or perhaps even third-party tools that might be interfering with the quota updates, or something we could use to force a more reliable refresh? Any insights into more robust server management techniques for this specific issue would be incredibly appreciated.

  • Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hello Ling Tanaka, those disk quota issues are certainly an annoying snag in efficient server management, especially after trying to restart 'cPard' โ€“ close enough to cpdavd! Ensure your /home partition in /etc/fstab has the correct usrjquota=quota.user,grpjquota=quota.group mount options, then remount it and execute /scripts/update_users_quotas to force a full re-scan. Hope this helps your conversions!

So, thanks Jabari Diallo, that's really helpful. Do you have any other tips for when quotas just won't update, especially after deleting large files?
