That makes sense with CDNs, but what if there's a transparent proxy setup by an ISP or a corporate network that doesn't add any X-Forwarded-For headers, tho, so REMOTE_ADDR is still wrong?

OMG, those X-Forwarded-For headers were completely it! Got the server configured and it's pulling the actual client IPs now, huge relief. But that's got me wondering, can those headers even be spoofed...
